Grit Bins
It’s important to store your grit salt somewhere close to where it will be used when the winter time comes. Usually this is outside at the edge of a car park in a lockable, weatherproof grit bin. Grit salt has a very long shelf life if it’s kept dry – the problems only come if rain gets into the grit bin itself. Grit salt that gets wet is more liable to clumping and it is possible for the water to actually leech the salt out of the grit salt making it a less effective.
Grit bins are exposed to everything the British weather can throw at them so it’s important to choose a quality product that is built to last. We buy our grit bins in bulk from a UK based plastics moulding company and they are constructed to our specifications. Most importantly they are manufactured from extremely tough, medium density UV stabilised polyethylene.
Our bins are available in two sizes, 200 litre and 400 litre. A 200 litre bin will hold around 10 large packs of either rock salt or white salt (roughly 250kg) and the 400 litre bin will hold 20 large packs (roughly 500kg). Both bins include a lockable staple type hasp so that you can secure your investment (and perhaps more importantly be confident that it’ll be there ready when you actually need it) – all you need is a padlock of your choice.

- 20 Large packs of high quality rock salt (BS 3247 | 1991)
- 400L grit bin in yellow grit bin specifications:

- Capacity: 400 litres
- Weight: 22kg (empty)
